Work of significance where substantial involvement can be disclosed has included:
- Equator Principles & International Project Finance: advising on health, safety, environmental and social aspects of international mining and energy projects including Sakhalin Energy’s oil and gas project in Russia, Schahin’s drilling rigs financing and Anglo American’s acquisition and disposal of copper mining interests in Zambia. Strategic advice on ESHIAs and action plans. Assisting the EPFI leadership group on governance issues. Advising adoptees of the Equator Principles - litigation risks associated with soft law and risk management measures
- Climate change: advising in relation to the regulatory regime applicable to carbon capture and storage, jurisdictional variations with regard to carbon trading rules within the EU, the sale and purchase of certified and voluntary emission reductions including in the forestry sector and the allocation of emissions allowances upon the sale and purchase of businesses regulated under the EU:ETS
- Environmental Insurance: advising on, drafting and negotiation of environmental insurance policies including in the context of lease surrenders, and disposal of contaminated land
- Advice on environmental regulatory and contentious issues including in relation to emissions trading schemes and NGO direct action campaigns and advice on health and safety issues, including corporate manslaughter and directors and officers liability
- Corporate Acquisitions, Disposals, Flotations etc.: (i) the restructuring by National Grid of its surplus land portfolio; (ii) the acquisition and financing by FCC of the UK’s largest landfill business, the Waste Recycling Group, (iii) the merger of Rusal, Sual and the alumina assets of Glencore to create the world’s biggest aluminium company and (iv) the separation of various BP Chemicals businesses and the Grangemouth refinery to form a separate group, Innovene, including advising on site separation issues and site co-operation agreements
